MMSI
Each LifeLine GPS comes pre-programmed from the factory with a Maritime Identification Digits (MID) user number. This number serves as your identification and will be transmitted along with your AIS distress call. The number can be found on the back label of your LifeLine GPS.
If your vessel (or the vessel you are travelling with) has a DSC enabled VHF radio, it is recommended to program the vessel MMSI number into your LifeLine GPS. This allows your LifeLine GPS to send a DSC position report directly to the vessel VHF radio by holding down the yellow button for 5 seconds.
This is a line-of-sight marine radio device designed to only provide an effective alerting and locating capability by communicating directly with marine VHF radios and AIS systems on vessels and shore base stations. This radio beacon is NOT an EPIRB or PLB.
Acronym Explanation: For the nautical acronym impaired, AIS stands for Automatic Identification System, which ships and boats use to identify and locate other similarly equipped vessels electronically. DSC stands for Digital Selective Calling, which allows boats to send and receive distress calls via VHF marine radios. MMSI stands for Maritime Mobile Service Identity which is a unique, numeric boat identifier. EPIRB stands for Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon, which boats use to transmit a coded message on the 406 MHz distress frequency via satellite and earth stations to the nearest rescue coordination centre. PLB stands for Personal Location Beacon, which works exactly the same as an EPIRB but is registered to a person, not a boat.
Please Note: The Nautilus LifeLine Marine Rescue GPS does not include the marine radio voice send and receive functionality of the original Nautilus LifeLine Marine VHF Radio and GPS device. It can only send a distress signal via AIS and/or DSC.

Important! The Nautilus LifeLine is an aid to your safety. It is not a life-saving device. It is not intended to save your life. It is intended to aid you in alerting others so that they can then help you.
Not Just For Divers!
While the Nautilus Lifeline Marine Rescue GPS was designed by divers for divers, it has much wider water sports applications. Sailors can now have their own compact personal rescue beacon for man overboard situations. Those out kayaking, canoeing, on jet skis, boating, fishing, or on SUPs can use the Nautilus Lifeline Marine Rescue GPS to summon help if separated from their watercraft. You don't think you need one until you do!
This equipment is intended for emergency use. Do not activate unless in an emergency situation.
