SOUTHERN SKIES: is the name given to this photographic print of a Southern Blue Ringed Octopus (Hapalochlaena maculosa) emerging from the dark waters at Rye Pier combined with a stunning October 2019 sunset at Rye Beach. The 16 x 24 inch portrait orientation print comes with a certificate of authenticity and is signed and numbered.
Of the four known species of Blue Ringed Octopus, the Southern Blue Ringed Octopus are the largest members, growing up to 20 cm in size. Despite their relatively large size and deadly venom (known as tetrodotoxin), the Blue Ringed Octopus is a very shy and timid creature, rarely seen out in the open waters. We are fortunate to have strong numbers of these amazing Octopus in the waters of the Mornington Peninsula, and like any other creature in the ocean, they contribute greatly to the overall health of the eco-system.
This photo was taken in October 2019 by Sam Glenn-Smith at multiple locations with a double exposure technique and combined in camera using image overlay. The Blue Ringed Octopus was sighted and photographed at Rye Pier, with the sunset split shot being taken further down the beach at Rye.

The convenient photo sizing makes framing solutions simple, with plenty of readily available 16 x 24 inch framing options. You also have the choice of larger frame sizes by using mount boards to give the image more negative space.
We do not supply frames with these orders — only the prints. We recommend taking the print to a local company that is able to frame up the photo for you. Alternatively you can frame the photo yourself in appropriately sized frame.

These photographic prints are done to order. We do not hold stock of these photos in store. Please allow 3 to 5 business days for printing and packaging before the print is sent out. To achieve high quality, we don't hurry the process. The prints are shipped in tubes via Australia Post and you will be sent an email with the tracking details when it ships.
